Writ of amparo

Mothers of missing University of the Philippines students Karen Empeno and Sherlyn Cadapan filed the writ of amparo with the Supreme Court Last October 25.

Nanay Concepcion and Nanay Erlinda were acompanied by Nanay Edita, mother of missing activist Jonas Burgos.

The writ of amparo would compel state agents to grant relatives of missing persons access to military and police holding facilities, and to submit to the court all information that they have on missing persons.

Relatives of desaparecidos hope that the writ of amparo, created by the Supreme Court in its commitment to uphold human rights in the face of the rising number of abducted/missing activists under the Arroyo regime, will be effective.
